Initial symptoms of keratoconus?
summary
Keratoconus is a kind of primary corneal degenerative disease characterized by corneal dilation, which causes the central part of the cornea to protrude forward into a cone and produces highly irregular myopic astigmatism and different visual impairment. It can be an independent disease or a component of multiple syndromes. It usually occurs around puberty without inflammation. In the late stage, there will be acute corneal edema, scar formation and severe visual impairment.
Initial symptoms of keratoconus?
Incubation period: this period can be without any symptoms, it is difficult to diagnose clinically. The possibility of this disease should be considered if one eye has been diagnosed with this disease, the other eye has abnormal retinoscopy (shear red light reflex) and the relatives of the confirmed case have abnormal retinoscopy.
Early stage: the main clinical manifestation of this stage is ametropia. The uncorrected visual acuity decreased, but the visual acuity could be corrected by glasses or contact lenses. At the beginning, it may only appear simple myopia, and then gradually develop to regular or irregular astigmatism, so it always shows myopic astigmatism.
The cornea gradually protrudes forward, and its shape can be detected by various methods. If qualitative analysis is made with placido disc, concentric rings and axial distortions will appear in the corneal image of placido disc at this stage, that is, the rings above the cornea or on the nasal side are wider, while the rings in the subtemporal part are narrower. The ring near the central part of the cornea is irregular in image and deformed in horizontal axis, i.e. pear shaped in image.
matters needing attention
Eat foods that are good for your eyes, such as carrots. Early detection and early diagnosis is the key to the prevention and treatment of this disease. The exact etiology is unclear, which may be caused by multiple factors, such as genetic factors, endocrine factors and so on.
