summary

Superficial punctate keratitis is the general name of three types of corneal epithelial lesions, namely punctate keratitis, punctate epithelial erosion and punctate subepithelial infiltration. They often exist at the same time, but the severity and extent of the lesions are different. The clinical manifestations were photophobia, stinging pain, acid grinding, blurred vision or foggy vision. Symptoms of punctate keratitis? Let's talk about it

Symptoms of punctate keratitis?

It can be seen at any age, mostly in middle-aged and young people. Some patients had foreign body sensation, photophobia and mild vision loss. Scattered round or oval, small nodular or gray punctate opacity appeared in the corneal epithelium, which usually occurred in the central part of the cornea or the optic axis area, in which the central bulge protruded from the epithelial surface, with positive staining of fluorescein and Bengal red.

There may be epithelial and subepithelial edema, but no infiltration. The corneal epithelium near the lesion showed radial or dendritic appearance. The disease can be diagnosed as herpes simplex keratitis without evidence. If not treated, the lesion can be healed in 1-2 months, but relapsed after a period of different length of time (patency is 6-8 weeks). In the remission stage, the corneal epithelial defect completely disappeared, but sometimes slight scar can be left in the epithelium.

The cornea is round or oval, 0.1-0.5 mm in diameter, and is composed of many gray particles with slight protrusion. Little or no fluorescein staining. Corneal opacity can occur in any part, but the pupil area is the most common. The disease was mild to severe, new and old lesions appeared alternately, and finally disappeared completely without leaving any trace. Corneal perception was normal, and the operation was slightly decreased. There was no conjunctival congestion, corneal edema or eyelid abnormality.

matters needing attention

Superficial punctate keratitis and Thygeson's superficial punctate keratitis have the same treatment plan: when the symptoms are serious in the acute stage, local use of low concentration corticosteroid treatment has better effect. However, it should be used in low concentration and short course of treatment, and it can also be treated with therapeutic soft contact lens. Choose their own serum, fibronectin, sodium hyaluronate, growth factor and other drugs to protect and promote corneal epithelial repair, supplement vitamin drugs.
