summary

Barium chloride is a silver white metal with slight luster. Only soluble barium salt can cause acute poisoning. Barium and its compounds can enter the body from respiratory tract, digestive tract and damaged skin, and can also be killed by intravenous administration. Most of the barium ions in the blood quickly transferred to the muscle and bone within 24 hours, and then the barium in the muscle gradually decreased, and gradually increased in the bone, with the accumulation up to 65% of the total absorption. I would like to share with you my views on the symptoms of barium chloride poisoning.

Symptoms of barium chloride poisoning

The incubation period of acute barium poisoning ranged from 10 minutes to 48 hours, mostly from 30 minutes to several hours. In the early stage of poisoning, dizziness, headache, dry throat, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, numbness of lips, tongue, face and limbs, weakness, palpitation and chest tightness occurred. After a large amount of barium ion is absorbed into the blood, it will cause excessive stimulation and excitation to the whole body muscle cells of patients, resulting in strong and lasting muscle spasm, facial and neck muscle tension, muscle tremor and convulsion

Symptoms gradually worsen, progressive muscle paralysis, often from the leg muscle, involving the arm muscle, neck muscle, tongue muscle, diaphragm, respiratory muscle. At first, the muscle strength was weakened, the standing was unstable, and it was difficult to hold the object, then the muscle tension decreased gradually, and finally completely paralyzed. Respiratory muscle paralysis causes respiratory failure, tongue muscle and pharyngeal muscle paralysis causes language disorders. The abnormal cardiovascular function showed that the heart rate increased first and then slowed down, various arrhythmias appeared, and the blood pressure increased first and then decreased. Severe patients complicated with acute renal insufficiency, due to respiratory muscle paralysis leading to cerebral hypoxia, acidosis and so on. The causes of death are respiratory muscle paralysis, refractory arrhythmia and so on.

Chronic poisoning manifested as extreme weakness, dyspnea, salivation, inflammation of oral and ocular mucosa, colitis, dyspepsia diarrhea, gastric bleeding, arrhythmia, tachycardia, elevated blood pressure and dysuria. Sometimes there are hair and eyebrows off the phenomenon. Frequent exposure to barite (BaSO4) dust may cause "pneumoconiosis".

matters needing attention

1. Airtight production equipment, establish workshop cleaning system, install ventilation and dust removal equipment. 2. Strict operation rules and regulations, workers should have their own protective measures, such as wearing protective masks; Training self-help knowledge, symptoms should be quickly away from the scene. 3. Strict equipment maintenance system. There should be washing equipment in the workshop in case of burn. Workers must wear protective equipment when repairing production equipment. 4. It is forbidden to smoke, eat and drink in the workshop, gargle and change work clothes after work. 5. Physical examination should be done before taking up the post. Those with occupational contraindications such as nervous, muscle and cardiovascular diseases are not allowed to engage in barium work. Pregnant and lactating women should be separated from barium work. 6. The storage of soluble barium salt should be strengthened. There should be obvious toxic warning signs on the containers. It is absolutely not allowed to keep it in the same warehouse with flour, edible alkali and other food, so as to prevent miseating.
